Although newly restored from more than 10 years, Bo Bat pottery with unique enamel line has confirmed its quality, gradually it has been become a famous ceramic brand in the country and prefered by some countries' market in the world.
Bo Bat ancient pottery village more than 1,000 years ago, was the Bach Bat village, Bo Xuyen Chan Thanh Hoa of Ai Chau Son, now is Bach Lien village, Yen Thanh commune, Yen Mo District, Ninh Binh province.
In 1999, archaeologists excavated the Man Bac site in Bach Lien village and found 15 graves and 17 individuals and many pottery items such as beads, pottery rings, pottery pots, pottery coarse, white enamel ceramics.
According to history records, the artisans of Bach Lien village followed the Ly court (in 1010) to move the capital to Thang Long, settled on the banks of the Red River where had good clay to make pottery and create a village, and now is Bat Trang pottery.
During the Ly - Tran dynasty, the products of Bo Bat pottery village were very popular. Many relics such as terracotta tiles "Dai Viet Quoc Quan Thanh Chuyen" - specialized bricks used to build the city, sophisticated ceramic products such as dragon’s heads, summoned beasts, dishes, household appliances,... was found during archaeological excavation at the temple area of Dinh Kinh and Le King (Ninh Binh).
In particular, Bo Bat pottery only uses a rare white clay called Bo Di clay, only in this region. This type of soil has the characteristics of creating the current No. 1 white enamel and only needs to calcine 50-70% of the time compared to other types of soil but still ensures the quality of smoothness and hardness. After calcining, the product is less likely to crack or break than other clays.
Along with that, being calcined at high temperatures, so ceramic products are created without lead concentration, ensuring health and safety for users, as well as retaining characteristics, the durability of enamel, limiting Chipped, very suitable for civil appliances of restaurants and hotels - places that often use dishwashers.
In order to create a unique feature for Bo Bat pottery, Mr. Pham Van Vang - who restored the ancient pottery industry of his hometown, focused on producing ceramic pieces, based on some famous paintings line such as Dong Ho, with typical regional and national cultures throughout the country. In particular, there are quite a number of famous tourist areas and famous destination Ninh Binh tourist areas and destinations such as the Phat Diem stone church, Trang An eco-tourism site, Tam Coc-Bich Dong tourist area.
Therefore, after a while, Bo Bat ceramic products have a foothold in the market, not only in the domestic but also in some foreign markets, such as Russia, Germany, France, the United States, Japan...
These efforts to restore this Bo Bat ancient pottery have great significance in reviving the cultural and historical values of the ancient capital, contribute to preserving and storage ancient cultural values of the previous generation.
