Hoa Lu Cave, also known as “Thung Lau”, is located in Gia Hung, Gia Vien and Ninh Binh communes. This is a national historical monument under Decision No. 51 / VH-QD (Now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) of December 1, 1996. Thung Lau with the majestic beauty of nature, is associated with the initial steps in Dinh Son Linh's unification career.

Hoa Lu is the Sino-Vietnamese pronunciation of the word reed, can understand that this is a cave with lots of wipes. A historiography with Hoa Lu cave, it is the birthplace of King Dinh Tien Hoang. The researchers said that the ancient Hoa Lu cave including Dai Huu village, Dai Hoang Chau is now Gia Phuong, Gia Vien and Ninh Binh communes. Thung Lau - Hoa Lu Cave is the first base of warlord Dinh Bo Linh in his reunification career. Thung Lau cave is about 15 km north from Hoa Lu. Dinh Bo Linh was born around 924 in Hoa Lu cave, Dai Hoang Chau.

Temple of Dinh Tien Hoang King in Hoa Lu cave
At center Hoa Lu cave is the temple to worship King Dinh Tien Hoang and the martial arts council of Dinh dynasty. The temple was built on the grounds of his former fortress and has now been repaired on a larger scale. In the temple of Dinh king, there is a wooden sign engraved with a poem in Chinese characters, made in the year of Tu Duc (1871). Behind the temple of King Dinh is the temple of Saint Nguyen Minh Khong.

Thung Lau Temple Festival
Every year, on the occasion of the beginning of spring, on October 8 of the lunar calendar, in Lau Ninh Binh valley, there is a festival called Hoa Lu festival. The festival is quite similar to the festival of the ancient capital Hoa Lu but has a smaller scale.
The festival is solemnly organized by the local community with many rituals, sacrifices and processions. In addition, the Hoa Lu Festival also has folk games such as wrestling, scrubbing, unicorn dancing, cheo singing or folk songs creating a joyful atmosphere for the people and visitors to attend.
